Green Code: A Blueprint for Eco-Friendly Websites
You are more than likely well aware of the impact that digital products and services have on our planet. But what can we as technologists do to have an impact with the code we write every single day?
By now you'll have heard statistics that the emissions caused by digital are equivalent to the airline industry, and that since 2010 internet users have increased by 60% and internet traffic has increased by 440%.
Other scary stats can be found online, such as data centres in Ireland using a fifth of all the country's electricity and the carbon output of digital being the same as Hong Kong, Singapore, Bangladesh, The Philippines, Sri Lanka, and Mongolia rolled into one.
So... what can we as technologists do about it?
